Reduplicant

In morphology, the reduplicant is the element that is added to the base as a result of a reduplication operation (e.g. Haspelmath 2002:24).

Example

In Latin, the Perfect of curro 'I run' is formed by reduplication: cu-curri. Here cu- is the reduplicant.
