Definition

People having a tip-of-the-tongue experience cannot "find" the word they wish to produce, but are able to recall certain characteristics of the word, e.g. number of syllables, stress pattern, or initial phoneme. This phenomenon suggests that certain features of word structure are stored independently of others.
