The target (of agreement) is the element which agrees with the controller element in an agreement situation.

  • "The element whose form is determined by agreement is the target." (Corbett 2006:4)

Examples

In English these books, these is the target (agreeing with the controller books in number); in she goes, goes is the target (agreeing with the controller she in person and number); in Russian moj-u mam-u 'my mom (accusative)', moj-u is the target (agreeing with the controller mam-u in gender, number, and case).
