Status planning is one aspect of language planning, in the well-known classification of Kloss (1969): It refers to modifications in the social role of a language, in particular the role with respect to the state or the government.

"Those concerned with this type of language planning take the corpus of the language for granted; they are primarily interested in the status of the language, whether it is satisfactory as it is or whether it should be lowered or raised." (Kloss 1969)
