The Saamic languages are considered to belong to the Finnic branch of the Uralic languages, though some authors rather assume an independent subfamily of Western Uralic. They are spoken in northern Europe and may be subdivided in Eastern Saamic, Central Saamic, and Southern Saamic. The last two groups are often unified as Western Saamic.
