Definition

A result nominal is a nominal which denotes the result of the action denoted by the verb it is derived from.

Example

In (i)a the collection refers to an entity which is the result of collecting things.

(i) a the collection was sold
b the collection of these particles has only begun

Result nominals are distinguished from process nominals which designate an event rather than an entity. In (i)b, the collection of these particles is a process nominal.
